untangle privacy policy
First draft, 18 October 2026. Things in [square brackets] need filling in or checking before launch. Not legal advice: worth a once-over from someone qualified before real users arrive.
Effective date: [DATE]
untangle is made by Renoma Ltd ("we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 13848042, registered office 74 Bradstocks Way, Sutton Courtenay, Abingdon, OX14 4DA. Si Hood is its director. We're the data controller for the small amount of personal data untangle handles. Questions go to hello@untangledaily.com.
The short version
- Your tasks live on your phone, not on our servers.
- When untangle sorts your list or plans your day, the words you typed go through our server to Claude, an AI made by Anthropic, and come straight back. We don't store them.
- Your calendar is read on your phone. Event names never leave it. Only the times you're busy are sent, so the plan can avoid them.
- No ads, no tracking, no selling data. Ever.
- You can delete everything from inside the app, and it's really gone.
What we handle, and why
On your phone only Your tasks, your name (if you give it), your plans, which bucket you moved things to, and which calendars you've switched on. These stay in the app's storage on your phone. We can't see them.
Your calendar If you allow it, untangle reads today's events on your phone so it can plan around them. The names, places and notes of your events stay on your phone. When you ask for a plan, only the start and end times of your busy slots are sent to our server. untangle only reads your calendar. It never adds, changes or deletes events.
When you sort or plan To sort your list or plan your day, the app sends our server: - the words of the tasks being sorted or planned - up to 30 recent tasks you moved to a different bucket, with their words, so it learns your habits - for plans: how much time and energy you said you have, the time of day, and your busy times
Our server passes this to Anthropic's Claude to do the sorting or planning, and sends the answer back to your phone. We don't save the words, and we don't write them to our logs.
Your account The app makes an anonymous account for you, with no email or password. It's a random ID, so our server knows a request came from a real copy of the app. We store that ID and a count of how many times you've used the AI each day, to stop the service being abused. The counts are deleted after 30 days.
The waitlist (website only) If you join the waitlist on untangledaily.com, we keep your email address, when you joined and when you confirmed, so we can tell you when untangle launches and send the odd bit of news. You confirm by email before you're added. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. We don't track opens or clicks. This is separate from the app: the app never asks for your email.
The website untangledaily.com counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: how many people came, which pages they read, roughly where from and on what kind of device. It uses no cookies and doesn't follow you around the web or build a profile of you. Subscriptions [add when the paywall is built] Payments are handled by Apple. We never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. It receives your anonymous app ID and your purchase history from Apple, not your name or email. [Link to RevenueCat's privacy policy.]
Who else is involved
- Anthropic runs Claude, the AI that sorts and plans. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, it deletes what we send within 30 days, except where something is flagged for breaking its usage policy, which it may keep for up to 2 years. Anthropic's commercial terms say it may not train its models on what we send. (Checked 19 Oct 2026 against Anthropic's Commercial Terms and its privacy centre.) Anthropic processes data in the United States.
- Supabase hosts our server and the anonymous account, in the EU.
- Apple delivers the app and handles payments.
- Brevo keeps the waitlist and sends its emails. It's a French company and stores the list in the EU.
When data goes to the US, it's protected by [CHECK: the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses, whichever Anthropic relies on].
Our legal basis
We use your data to provide the service you've asked for (contract). The daily usage count is kept for our legitimate interest in keeping the service working and affordable. The calendar is only read with your permission, which you can take back any time in your iPhone's Settings.
People sometimes write private things, including about their health, into a task list. We don't need or ask for health information, and we treat everything you type as private. We only use it to sort and plan for you, and we don't keep it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and you can object to how we use it.
- Delete: Everything › Delete everything removes your tasks from your phone and your account from our server, straight away.
- See or export: your tasks are already on your phone. For anything on our server, email hello@untangledaily.com.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
untangle isn't meant for children under [16]. [CHECK the age and the App Store age rating.]
Security
All traffic is encrypted. Our server checks every request comes from a signed-in copy of the app, and limits how much each person can use the AI each day. Our database is locked down so no one can read anyone else's data. The keys that talk to Anthropic live only on our server, never in the app.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
